Texas AG investigates StubHub over undelivered World Cup tickets

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced an investigation into the resale platform StubHub on Friday. The probe follows dozens of complaints from fans who purchased World Cup tickets that were never delivered.

Fans reported buying tickets months ahead of their matches, only to discover hours before kickoff that their tickets were invalid. Buyers also stated that StubHub's "FanProtect Guarantee," which promises replacement tickets or a full refund, went unfulfilled.

StubHub has not commented on the investigation but issued a statement saying it is "working tirelessly to resolve ticket transfer issues and get every fan into their match." The company previously cited issues with FIFA's ticketing infrastructure, a claim the global soccer body denied.

In many cases, attending a World Cup match is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If StubHub is ghost ticketing Texans out of that experience, my office will use every tool available to hold them accountable and help fans who have been wronged.

Dallas and Houston, both in Texas, are among the host cities for the tournament. The Attorney General's office urged Texas residents who experienced similar issues to file a complaint. A proposed class-action lawsuit against StubHub over ticket problems was also filed earlier this week.
