Texas soldier Isabella Gonzales, 19, killed in Iran-attributed attack on Jordan base

U.S. Army Private Isabella Gonzales, a 19-year-old from Carrollton, Texas, was killed on July 17, 2026, during an attack on the Muwaffaq Salti air base in Jordan. The base hosts U.S. forces involved in Operation Inherent Resolve, the mission targeting the Islamic State extremist group.

Gonzales was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade. Her unit, based in Ansbach, Germany, was deployed to Jordan for the operation. The Pentagon officially confirmed her death, stating the incident is under investigation.

The attack, which occurred on July 17 and 18, is attributed to Iran. It resulted in the deaths of two U.S. soldiers. First Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, also died in the subsequent attacks on the same base. A third U.S. service member was initially reported missing but unidentified human remains were later found in the area.

In addition to the fatalities, four U.S. military personnel were medically evacuated from the base for treatment, though they have since been released. Other service members sustained minor injuries during the offensive. The ongoing conflict escalation between the United States and Iran has been brought into sharp focus by these casualties.
