Thailand and Taiwan Deepen Cooperation Against Transnational Crime

Thailand and Taiwan are intensifying their joint efforts to combat a growing wave of transnational crime, focusing on drug trafficking, sophisticated fraud schemes, and the pursuit of fugitives. The Thai Trade and Economic Office representative in Taiwan, Narong Boonsatheanwong, recently led a delegation to meet with Chen Pai-li, Director-General of Taiwan's Investigation Bureau.

The discussions centered on strengthening existing cooperation and improving intelligence exchange and law enforcement collaboration. Boonsatheanwong's visit included a tour of the Investigation Bureau's anti-drug exhibition, where he learned about the bureau's history and recent achievements in combating illicit substances.

Taiwan and Thailand have established deep mutual trust in cross-border law enforcement cooperation, and I thank the Thai government and relevant law enforcement agencies for their long-term support.

Both agencies acknowledged the increasing complexity of criminal organizations operating across borders. They committed to enhancing information sharing and joint operations to counter drug smuggling and telecommunications fraud more effectively. The meeting underscored the deep trust built between Taiwanese and Thai law enforcement agencies over the years.

Past collaborations have yielded significant results, including the extradition of wanted fugitives involved in drug smuggling and the seizure of substantial quantities of heroin concealed within imported goods. Taiwan's Investigation Bureau noted that criminal groups are employing increasingly covert methods, such as using legitimate imports and foreign workers to mask their activities. The bureau plans to continue working closely with its Thai counterparts through legal attachés and existing communication channels to curb transnational criminal activities.

In the future, the Investigation Bureau will continue to cooperate closely with the Thai side to strengthen the exchange of criminal intelligence, pursue fugitives, and conduct joint investigations, thereby enhancing law enforcement capabilities in combating cross-border drugs and telecommunications fraud.
