Thanh Loc Theatre Troupe Announces Its First Play, Giang Huong: The Stage Late at Night

Le Phuong will play Giang Huong in the first production staged by Thanh Loc Theatre Troupe, which has released its first images from Giang Huong: The Stage Late at Night.

Thanh Loc directs the play, written by Nguyen Thanh Chau. The production developed from the original spoken drama Behind the Backstage Curtain, later adapted into the cai luong play The Stage Late at Night by playwright Nguyen Thanh Chau, known as Meritorious Artist Nam Chau. The work has been performed on stage for about 60 years by many celebrated artists.

For the launch of his new troupe, Thanh Loc has chosen the title Giang Huong: The Stage Late at Night. The troupe presented the production as a remembrance and tribute to generations of performers, playwrights and others who devoted their lives to theatre. It said those artists left behind not only works, but also a professional spirit, faith in theatre’s value and a cultural legacy carried forward through successive generations.

The early promotional images feature Le Phuong as Giang Huong. A short video also highlights the trio of Luong The Thanh, Le Phuong and Van Trang, leading audiences to associate them with the play’s three central characters: Linh Nam, Giang Huong and My Tien.

The casting has prompted speculation that Luong The Thanh may take over Thanh Loc’s former role as Linh Nam. Thanh Loc previously staged Giang Huong to open Thien Dang Theatre in September 2023, playing Linh Nam while Le Khanh portrayed Giang Huong. The new production is expected to offer a different staging, adding to audience curiosity.
