Thanh Niên Wins a Third-Prize Award in Quảng Trị Journalism Contest

A Thanh Niên reporting team has won a third-prize award in the first Quảng Trị Provincial Journalism Awards for its work on Hang Tám Cô, titled “Hang Tám Cô: Easing Pain After More Than Half a Century!”

The awards ceremony took place on Sept. 8 in Đồng Hới, Quảng Trị, marking the first time the province had organized the contest after its merger. The competition attracted 93 entries in print, online, television, radio and photo journalism.

The winning article by Nguyễn Phúc and Nguyễn Minh Hải examined what happened more than half a century after the fateful 1972 bombing at Hang Tám Cô on the 20 Quyết Thắng Road. The remains recovered there ended a long search and brought significant consolation to the families of fallen soldiers.

Judges selected 14 outstanding works: one first prize, five second prizes and eight third prizes. The winning entries covered political, economic, cultural, social, national defense and security issues, as well as the daily lives of people in the province.

Organizers said the contest was intended to honor quality journalism and encourage reporters and editors to keep producing stronger work. They also said the entries demonstrated journalism’s role in reflecting social life, highlighting positive figures and addressing issues of public concern.
