Thanksgiving Service for former Miss Universe contestant LaToya Malcolm underway

Kingston, Jamaica – A heartfelt thanksgiving service celebrated the life of LaToya Malcolm, a former Miss Universe contestant and actress who passed away last month at the age of 35. Family and friends gathered at the Central Assembly of God in Lincoln Road to honor her memory.

From the moment you came into my life, you were precious to me. I wanted nothing more than to raise you with love, dignity, pride, respect, and strong values. I wanted you to know who you were, whose you were, and the worth God placed inside you. And you became exactly that; a beautiful woman. You grew up in different spaces and experienced different environments, but I will always be proud that you never allowed your surroundings to define you.

Malcolm's mother shared a touching tribute, describing her daughter as "precious" from the moment she entered her life. She spoke of her desire to raise LaToya with love, dignity, pride, respect, and strong values, ensuring she knew her worth. "You grew up in different spaces and experienced different environments, but I will always be proud that you never allowed your surroundings to define you," her mother stated.

Her brother, Giovanni, echoed sentiments of her kindness and unwavering support. He recalled instances where she would help him financially without him having to ask, often joking about her own financial status while still making an effort to assist him. "She gave not only from what she had, but from the heart she carried," he reflected, capturing the essence of her generosity.

She was always kind to me, and I can honestly say that I would be lying if I said otherwise. As I grew older, she continued to look out for me in her own special way Sometimes, if she had a little extra change, I would suddenly see something come into my account. I never had to ask or pressure her. And whenever I did ask for a little help, she would jokingly say, “You think me rich?” But somehow, she would still make an effort to help her brother. That was Latty. She gave not only from what she had, but from the heart she carried.

Other tributes from Malcolm's partner, cousins, aunt, uncle, and friends were also shared, painting a picture of a beloved individual known affectionately as 'Latty P'. The Miss Universe Jamaica organization announced Malcolm's death on July 18, expressing deep sadness and offering condolences to her family and loved ones. Malcolm had proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica competition. Her cause of death was not disclosed.
