The Iron Man continues: Martin Dorbek begins his 15th season with Kalev

Martin Dorbek will begin his 15th season with Bigbank/Kalev after the club agreed to retain the 35-year-old guard for the coming campaign. The deal completes the roster of the Estonian championship runners-up.

Dorbek said he welcomed the changes at the club and the appointment of Brett Nõmm as head coach. He also described seeing mostly new teammates at training in August. Because he is still recovering from injury, he said he was trying to help the younger players with his experience.

His recovery has taken longer than expected after an operation for a sports hernia early in the summer. He is also dealing with bone edema and currently undergoes rehabilitation every day, meaning he will miss the start of the season.

It is great to be part of the changes at the club and to see Brett [Nõmm] as head coach. At some point in August, I realized during training that there were only new players around me. Since I am also still recovering from an injury, I am trying to help the younger players with my advice.

“I am very grateful to the Kalev club, which has treated me with understanding, and I will do my best to get back on the court this year. I have not said my last word yet. Hopefully, sooner or later, it will happen with me lifting the trophy,” Dorbek said in a club press release.

Kalev’s first preseason game is scheduled for September 9 against KK Keila. The team includes guards Kevaughn Allen, Jacob Falko, Rasmus Vuks, Kaspar Vuks and Carlos Jürgens, along with forwards and center Damian Forrest. Gregor Kuuba remains with the club but is recovering from a serious leg injury. Nõmm will coach, assisted by Kris Killing and Tanel Kurbas.
