The map of Peronism in Congress: how loyalties are distributed within the PJ

The Peronist movement in Argentina is undergoing a significant internal realignment as factions vie for leadership, primarily between Cristina Kirchner and Axel Kicillof.

While legislative blocs in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate generally maintain a unified structure, some provincial leaders, such as governors Osvaldo Jaldo of Tucumán and Raúl Jalil of Catamarca, have begun to distance themselves from the traditional Peronist party framework. Others maintain their presence within Peronist blocs but assert autonomy on issues that conflict with their regional interests.

Within this dynamic landscape, the movement encompasses several key groups. The dominant factions are led by Kicillof and Kirchner, whose political arm is La Cámpora. Additionally, the Frente Renovador, led by former Economy Minister Sergio Massa, and the Frente Patria Grande, associated with Juan Grabois, are represented. There is also an emerging space focused on building a federal Peronism, alongside provincial governors who are carving out their own political space.

The structure differs between the legislative chambers. In the Chamber of Deputies, Peronism has largely retained its representation, with bloc leader Germán Martínez working to manage internal tensions. However, the Senate presents a different dynamic, where provincial leadership and governors hold greater sway, shifting the focus away from national alignments that dominate the lower house. Kirchnerism maintains its strongest base in the Senate, while Kicillof, Massa, and Grabois lack senators who directly align with their specific structures.
