The new Valle police commander, Colonel Amaury Lynsay Aguilera López, wants to strengthen crime-fighting strategies

Colonel Amaury Lynsay Aguilera López has taken charge of the Police Department of Valle del Cauca with a stated priority: reducing crime across the department.

The 46-year-old officer, who was born in Bogotá, said he also wants to strengthen strategies against organized crime and manage the force with a focus on civic coexistence. “I hope to strengthen strategies against organized crime and a management approach focused on civic coexistence,” he said.

Aguilera graduated from Colombia’s General Santander Police Cadet School on Jan. 21, 2000. Over nearly three decades, he has received 100 commendations and 49 decorations. His assignments have included administrative and operational posts across the country.

His training includes degrees in business and industrial administration, a degree in police administration and a specialization in security. He also completed international training in the United States on security and ground-defense skills, and in Mexico on human rights.

His academic record includes studies in public-sector human rights, integrity and anti-corruption, and the technical and legal aspects of currency counterfeiting. He has also worked in Cali, Bogotá, Guaviare, Neiva and Huila, including roles with mobile rural security units, the antinarcotics directorate and personal protection services.
