The Ninth Munae Village Film Festival Runs Sept. 9-13

The Munae Village Film Festival, organized by residents of Dongcheon-dong and Gogi-dong in Yongin’s Suji District, will take place from Sept. 9 to 13 at venues including the Suji Nonghyup Dongcheon branch auditorium.

Now in its ninth year, the festival carries the theme “Nevertheless, We Are.” Organizers said the theme reflects a belief that people will continue to find their way, even as they confront large and small forms of violence directly and indirectly.

The opening films are director Yeon Sang-ho’s “Face” and director Jung Ji-young’s “My Name Is.” After the screenings, actor Park Jeong-min, who appears in “Face,” and Jung will speak with audiences.

The Young Director Special Screening will present seven short films selected from 540 submissions. “I’m Also a Director,” a section for residents who challenged themselves to make films, will show 12 works across four divisions: elementary, middle school, general and senior. In “Neighborhood-to-Neighborhood Theaters,” residents serve as film curators and present 20 films at 19 screening venues.
