The Period of Oral Maturities Begins

The academic year in Slovakia is reaching its climax as students prepare for the crucial oral component of their 'maturita,' or final high school examinations. Scheduled from May 18 to June 5, this phase follows the written exams successfully completed in March by over 42,000 students nationwide. The Ministry of Education has confirmed the dates, which were set by regional school administration offices based on proposals from school principals.

The oral part of the 'exam of maturity' will take place at individual secondary schools between May 18 and June 5.

For students requiring a second chance, makeup and retake sessions for the oral exams are slated for September and February of the next academic year. The Ministry has outlined clear registration deadlines for these opportunities, ensuring a structured process for those needing to retake the examination. Similarly, students repeating the entire maturita exam have specific timelines to adhere to, typically within three years of completing their studies.

A replacement and retake term for the oral part of the internal exam takes place in September or February of the following school year.

The written part of the maturita, held in March, covered Slovak language and literature, selected foreign languages, and for a significant number of students, mathematics. Minority language schools also conducted exams in Slovak language and literature, alongside their respective native languages. The Ministry also clarified the schedule for retakes of the external and written internal parts, which occur in September or March of the subsequent school year.

If a student repeats the entire maturita exam, they can only do so in the regular examination period (in March) within three years of completing their studies.

This period is a significant milestone for Slovak youth, marking the culmination of their secondary education.
