The Player Who Ended Dinamo’s Champions League Dream Has Signed for a Famous English Club

Edvin Austbo helped end Dinamo Zagreb’s Champions League hopes, then secured a move to one of England’s best-known clubs.

The 21-year-old scored Viking’s second goal in the 48th minute of the return leg in Norway. Viking went on to win 3-1, overturning the 2-2 draw in Zagreb and eliminating the Croatian champions from the Champions League playoff. Dinamo will play in the Europa League instead.

Austbo’s goal made it 2-1. Two minutes later, Moi added Viking’s third, ending Dinamo’s attempt to reach Europe’s top club competition. The match has now become a defining episode in the young Norwegian’s brief career.

Austbo spent that career with Viking, apart from a loan spell at second-tier Sandnes. He is also a current Norway under-21 international. English media have reported that West Ham paid 13 million euros for the transfer, with Austbo signing a four-year contract.

West Ham are seeking a quick return to the Premier League after relegation, but their new Championship campaign began with two draws and a defeat in the first three matches.
