The series that will keep us indoors this September

September opens the new television season with major returns, long-awaited premieres and titles that have already drawn attention. Netflix, Apple TV, HBO, Disney+ and Cinobo are all expanding their schedules with new series and film selections.

Netflix will release season two of “The Gentlemen” on September 3. The black comedy follows Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass as they move deeper into Britain’s criminal underworld. Eddie is the reluctant aristocrat who inherited a vast fortune and discovered that much of it was tied to a cannabis empire. Guy Ritchie returns as creator and producer, and Netflix has already renewed the series for a third season.

“Fauda” returns on September 8 for a fifth season directed by Omri Givon and starring Lior Raz, Neta Garty and Itzik Cohen. Doron Kavillio returns two years after the previous season for a dangerous new mission. When an old friend’s independent revenge operation in Marseille spirals out of control, Doron becomes involved in a deep-cover operation in France. The season also attempts to incorporate the dramatic developments after October 7.

The Dutch drama “Wolf Like Me” arrives on September 10. Four couples who appear to have perfect lives see their world collapse when one of their friends dies in a fire. The death forces them to reconsider what they thought they knew about one another as hidden secrets emerge.

On September 17, the anthology “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story” examines one of the most notorious criminal cases in American history. Ella Beatty plays Lizzie Borden, the young woman accused of killing her parents with an axe in 1892. “Stranger Things: Tales of ’85” also returns for a second season that day, as an animated series for adults.
