'The Simpsons' confirm 'The New Simpsons Movie', their second film

The yellow family from Springfield is officially returning to the big screen. Disney revealed the first previews, plot details, and release date for the highly anticipated 'The Simpsons Movie 2', nearly two decades after the franchise's initial box office success.

During the D23 convention, attendees were treated to a sneak peek of the film, showcasing a scene filled with the franchise's signature humor. The preview depicted Homer hitting a valuable ball during a baseball game, triggering a wild, town-wide chase that wound through Moe's Tavern, an operating room, and the Duff Brewery before the ball returned to Bart at the stadium. While this sequence offered a glimpse into the film's comedic style, Disney has kept the complete plot and the main conflict facing Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie under wraps.

The movie, previously known in development as 'The Simpsons Movie 2', now has an official title and a clear path to theaters. It is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 3, 2027. This date was adjusted from an earlier target of July 23, 2027, with the company now formally promoting the film for a late summer release. This marks exactly 20 years since the original 'The Simpsons Movie' premiered in 2007.
