Over four decades after the original series finale, the 64-year-old actress appears in the new Netflix reboot, titled "The House of the Prairie."

Arngrim, who featured in 104 episodes across eight seasons of the original show from 1974 to 1982, has shed the signature blonde curls and prim dresses of Nellie Oleson. In the reboot's second episode, she transforms into Ida, a disquieting character residing in the woods with a group of vagrants. The role presents a stark departure from her previous work, with Ida's appearance marked by dirt-covered features, decayed teeth, and a generally unkempt demeanor.

In an interview with Netflix's official site, Tudum, Arngrim shared that the offer for the role came just days before filming began in Canada. "I got a phone call: 'What are you doing in a week and a half? Could you come to Winnipeg? There's a character, we want you to do it,'" she recalled. She described Ida as "basically a crazy woman in the woods" and a "kind of forest vagrant with vagrant friends."

Arngrim readily accepted the part, finding the character's eerie nature appealing. "I thought, 'Oh, that's creepy. That's perfect for me. I'm heading over there right now!'" she stated. She also reflected on the immense popularity she gained as Nellie Oleson, noting that the fame truly exploded during the show's third season. "The strangest thing about being a child star is that it happens years later... It's weird enough to be famous at 12, 13, or 14, with strangers talking to you on the street as if they know you. But years later, you're 30, 40, 50, 64 years old, and still...", she trailed off, hinting at the enduring impact of her iconic role.
