The new Netflix series 'No tengo miedo' transports viewers to the rural landscape of Veracruz, Mexico, in the summer of 1986. The story centers on Miguel, a 10-year-old boy who stumbles upon a hidden secret while exploring the coffee plantations. His discovery is another child, Felipe, weak and scared, concealed in a hole and seemingly abandoned.

While the series evokes a nostalgic atmosphere, it delves into a thriller about the loss of innocence. As Miguel becomes entangled in Felipe's plight, he uncovers that the individuals responsible for Felipe's confinement are closer than expected – part of his own social circle. Netflix and The Hollywood Reporter highlight that the series moves beyond traditional monsters to explore the more intimate terror of family secrets and the drastic choices adults sometimes make.

Contrary to potential assumptions, 'No tengo miedo' is not based on a true event. The narrative adapts the Italian novel 'Io non ho paura' by Niccolò Ammaniti, which was previously adapted into a film in 2003. The Netflix production, directed by Ernesto Contreras, was filmed in Veracruz during 2025 and reimagines the original story within the context of 1980s rural Mexico.

The series, comprising six episodes, features a cast including Aldo Emiliano Navarro and Yago Andreu. The ending leaves some questions open, but Miguel's final narration suggests he survived and Felipe managed to return to his family.
