This is the New Generation of X-Men, and We Know When the Long-Awaited Film Reboot is Coming

After years of anticipation, Disney and Marvel Studios have officially unveiled the cast for the new X-Men film, set to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028. The announcement came during the D23 convention, where Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige presented the lineup of young Hollywood talent taking on the iconic mutant roles.

Feige hinted that the cast is not yet final, suggesting that more familiar faces could join the project. This reboot signifies the end of an era defined by actors like Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart. Christopher Abbott will step into the shoes of Professor Charles X. Xavier, succeeding Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy. Kit Connor, known for "Heartstopper," will portray Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, leading the team in the field.

Sadie Sink, a star of "Stranger Things," has been cast as the powerful telepath Jean Grey. In a surprising reveal, Adam Driver will embody one of the franchise's most notorious villains, Mister Sinister, whose alter ego in the film will be Nathaniel Milbury. Samara Weaving, recognized for her roles in horror films like "Ready or Not," will play Emma Frost, a mutant with diamond powers who often navigated moral ambiguity in the comics.

Inde Navarrette, who gained recognition for the horror film "Obsession," will take on the role of Rogue, a character previously played by Anna Paquin. Maya Boyd is confirmed to portray Ororo Munroe, the powerful Storm. The original X-Men film franchise, launched in 2000, is credited with laying the groundwork for the modern superhero film boom, with its thirteen installments grossing over six billion dollars worldwide.

The reboot will be directed by Jake Schreier, who previously helmed "Thunderbolts*" for Marvel. The screenplay is penned by Lee Sung Jin, creator of the acclaimed series "Beef," and Joanna Calo, known for her work on "The Bear." The selection of Schreier, Lee, and Calo suggests a fresh creative direction for the beloved franchise.
