Schools teach children German grammar, quadratic equations and historical facts. But when it comes to understanding themselves, they are largely left to figure it out alone, argues leadership and team coach Sandra Vemgaard.

In a Berlingske opinion piece, Vemgaard says children receive extensive academic instruction but little guidance on understanding their own behavior or the causes of what she calls mental noise.

She argues that self-awareness is the most important competence of all and should be placed on the school timetable. The central criticism is that schools measure performance in conventional subjects while neglecting a skill that affects children both in the classroom and throughout their lives.
