Thousands march for LGBTQ+ rights at Koblenz CSD

Thousands gathered in Koblenz for Christopher Street Day, advocating for sexual and gender diversity. Patrick Zwiernik, the demonstration leader, described the atmosphere as peaceful yet defiant, estimating 6,000 to 7,000 attendees. Many participants brought self-made placards, including calls for the establishment of a queer center in Koblenz and strong opposition to far-right movements.

Zwiernik expressed concern over the increasingly harsh climate and language directed at the LGBTQ+ community, citing recent anti-queer incidents. He observed a "normalization of far-right speech," which he noted is sometimes adopted by conservative political parties. "As soon as the language coarsens, the path to violence is not far," Zwiernik warned.

The demonstration also voiced support for expanding Article 3 of Germany's Basic Law to include sexual and gender diversity. Participants emphasized that protecting queer individuals should be a municipal responsibility funded by the state. Police confirmed the event proceeded peacefully.
