Thousands seek treatment at Cần Thơ hospitals after holiday break

Thousands of people returned to hospitals in Cần Thơ on September 3, the first working day after the National Day holiday. Some facilities recorded more than 2,000 visits in a single morning.

Military Hospital 121 received thousands of patients for health-insurance and standard consultations across several departments. Hospital officials said the facility continued outpatient examinations, medication distribution and emergency care throughout the five-day holiday from August 29 to September 2. During that period, it treated and dispensed medicine to more than 1,000 patients and handled hundreds of emergencies involving accidents and injuries.

Cần Thơ Central General Hospital also reported a steep rise in consultations, treatment and follow-up visits. More than 2,000 people registered during the morning at specialist clinics, including both health-insurance and paid services.

Hospitals brought in additional doctors and medical staff from other departments to handle the surge, reduce congestion and shorten waiting times. During the holiday itself, the central hospital’s emergency department received 1,183 cases and recorded more than 1,100 outpatient visits.

The emergencies mainly involved traffic and household accidents, cardiovascular illnesses, strokes and surgical conditions. Many holiday patients were older people with chronic or internal-medicine conditions. Hospitals across the city maintained emergency teams and continued outpatient treatment and medicine distribution during the break.
