Three aircraft and a drone join search for missing prosecutor after plane crash

A large-scale search operation is ongoing for prosecutor Juan Benjo Huchani Alpiri, who has been missing since a light aircraft accident on Friday, August 14. Huchani was traveling in a C-172 aircraft with three other individuals when it crashed in the Cachascani area of Beni.

The pilot of the aircraft died in the crash. Two other occupants were injured and received assistance. Huchani, however, reportedly emerged from the wreckage unharmed. He left the crash site to seek help, and his whereabouts have been unknown since.

Search efforts are being intensified, involving personnel from the Bolivian Air Force (FAB), SAR instructors, and volunteers. The operation is covering a difficult, wooded terrain. The V Air Brigade has deployed two C-206 aircraft, an EC-145 helicopter, and a drone to aid the search. Ground teams, consisting of three instructors and eight SAR volunteers, are also actively combing the area.

While the aircraft was located on the afternoon of August 14, Huchani's location remains uncertain. Reports suggest he may have managed to communicate, but rescue teams have not yet reached him. The search continues with aerial reconnaissance and ground sweeps, focusing on the vicinity of the Cachascani estancia where the plane was found.
