Three Arrested in Middelkerke After Chase Linked to Suspected Human Trafficking

Police in Middelkerke, Belgium, arrested three individuals overnight after a pursuit that authorities suspect is connected to human trafficking. The incident began when the Middelkerke police zone received a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Authorities attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver ignored the signals and fled, even driving in the wrong direction at one point. The pursuit escalated, requiring assistance from federal police and neighboring zones in Ostend and West Coast. A spike strip was eventually deployed to stop the fleeing vehicle.

The driver lost control of the car after the spike strip, and the occupants attempted to escape on foot following the crash. A search operation was launched, leading to the arrest of three people who were taken to the police station. It remains unclear if any other individuals involved are still at large.
