Three Arrested Over Child's Drowning at Smederevo Aqua Park

Authorities have arrested three people in Smederevo, Serbia, following the tragic drowning of a five-year-old boy at the Jugovo aqua park on July 20.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Smederevo, in cooperation with the local Police Administration, detained the suspects after preliminary investigations indicated they failed to follow safety regulations. The arrested individuals include M.Đ., the director of the company operating the aqua park; D.Đ., the manager responsible for general affairs; and B.R., a lifeguard, all from Smederevo.

They are charged with committing serious offenses against public safety, specifically related to the child's death due to negligence. The suspects have been placed in 48-hour detention and will be brought before the prosecutor's office for questioning within that period.

Eyewitnesses reported that emergency medical services arrived quickly and attempted resuscitation, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred on the afternoon of July 20, after 6 p.m., at the aqua park's pool.
