Three children drown in pond in Bangladesh

A tragic incident unfolded in Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi on Saturday when three children drowned while bathing in a pond. The victims, identified as 8-year-old Fatema and her 12-year-old cousin Ayesha alias Ashamoni, both from Monohardi, along with their 13-year-old relative Sumaiya from Mymensingh, were bathing in a pond near Fatema and Ayesha’s home.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM in Char Ahmadpur village. According to locals, the children went to the pond in the afternoon. After they failed to resurface for an extended period, another child alerted the victims' relatives. Family members and local residents initiated a search and recovered the bodies from the pond.

Despite attempts to transport them to a hospital, the children had already passed away. Monohardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahangir Badsha described the event as "extremely tragic and heartbreaking." He stated that the police would consult with higher authorities to determine the necessary next steps.
