Three dead in factory fire in South Korea

A fire at a fatty acid manufacturing plant in South Korea claimed the lives of three individuals on August 28. The blaze erupted at the Daewon Industrial factory in Cheonan, located in the South Chungcheong province, shortly before noon local time.

Emergency services received the initial report at 11:44 AM. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered intense flames, which complicated rescue and firefighting efforts. A woman in her 70s was discovered in cardiac arrest, trapped beneath falling debris. Two other individuals, initially reported missing, were also found deceased at the scene.

The South Chungcheong Fire Headquarters issued a Level 1 emergency response, deploying 68 personnel and 37 fire engines. The Cheonan city government alerted nearby residents to exercise caution due to the ongoing situation. Minister of Interior and Safety Yun Ho-jung directed relevant authorities to mobilize all available resources for the rescue and firefighting operations.
