Three dead in Rolpa pickup truck crash

A tragic accident on Thursday morning claimed the lives of three individuals when a Bolero pickup truck plunged approximately 600 meters off the Shahid Highway in Rolpa. The vehicle was transporting construction materials at the time of the crash.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. in Kalapahar, Byangkhola, within Madi Rural Municipality. The pickup truck was traveling from Dang to Bagmara in Rolpa, carrying items such as corrugated sheets, cement, and plastic pipes. The District Police Office in Rolpa confirmed that the bodies were recovered and identified after a significant rescue operation.

The deceased have been identified as the driver, Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, approximately 25 years old, and a couple, Jiudhan Chaudhary, around 40, and his wife Kamala Chaudhary, around 38. All three were residents of Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City. According to the Area Police Office in Ghartigaun, they all died at the scene.

Rescue efforts were immediately launched, involving local residents and security personnel. A team from the Area Police Office, Ghartigaun, including traffic police, was dispatched, joined by a team from the District Police Office, Rolpa, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Panch Kumar Bakhu. Bakhu noted that the crash site's steep and challenging terrain complicated the rescue and recovery operations. The accident took place on a narrow and risky stretch of the road currently under construction, approximately 30 kilometers west of the district headquarters, Liwang. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
