Three injured in overnight road crashes across Lagos

Three separate road incidents occurred in different parts of Lagos State in the early hours of Saturday, leading to injuries but no loss of life, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The first incident took place around 12:07 am at Olupese Bus Stop inward Oshodi. A truck carrying granite developed a fault when its rear tire became trapped in a pothole, obstructing traffic. LASEMA's statement indicated that the poor condition of the road contributed to the breakdown. Emergency responders diverted traffic and used a heavy-duty recovery vehicle to remove the truck.

Less than an hour later, at approximately 12:59 am, a Toyota Sienna collided with an oncoming truck at Aswani Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo. The impact caused the truck to veer off the road and become stuck on a culvert. Three individuals, two women and one man, sustained injuries in this crash. They received immediate medical attention from responders and were subsequently transported to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

The third accident occurred at about 1:19 am on Oba Ogunji Road in Ikeja, involving a Ministry of Environment concrete mixer truck and a green Volkswagen bus. Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speeding by the Volkswagen bus caused the collision. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded in this incident. Emergency responders managed to remove both vehicles from the roadway after performing mechanical repairs on the mixer truck.

LASEMA's Head of Public Affairs, Afolabi Olawale, detailed the agency's response, noting the prompt rescue of victims and the restoration of traffic flow. The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies and urged motorists to drive responsibly.
