Three Jamaicans among several charged in major US drug trafficking probe

A significant U.S. drug trafficking investigation has led to the charging of 19 individuals, including three Jamaicans. The operation targeted two alleged criminal organizations accused of distributing cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine across states like Maryland, West Virginia, and South Carolina.

U.S. authorities announced the charges earlier this week, stemming from a joint law enforcement effort. Indictments allege that two separate drug operations were distributing large quantities of cocaine and cocaine base in Berkeley and Jefferson counties for over two years. One operation, allegedly led by Jamaicans Rohan Broadie and Marvin Taaff, involved 15 defendants and utilized multiple residences for drug storage and distribution. Members of this group are also accused of possessing firearms and handling large sums of cash from drug sales.

The defendants are accused of participating in drug distribution conspiracies that operated across several states, including Maryland, West Virginia and South Carolina.

The second organization is accused of distributing over 500 grams of cocaine and related substances in and around Jefferson County. During the investigation, law enforcement searched various properties, seizing tens of thousands of dollars, cocaine, and luxury items believed to be purchased with illicit funds. Court records indicate Marvin Taaff has a prior federal drug trafficking conviction from 2016, for which he received over 11 years in prison. The case remains active in the courts.
