Three men dine and dash, leaving 120,000 won bill and sparking 'dine-and-dash' controversy

A restaurant owner in Guri, South Korea, is seeking justice after three male customers allegedly consumed a meal worth around 120,000 won (approximately $86 USD) and fled the premises without settling the bill. The incident, which took place on June 4th, has sparked outrage online after footage of the alleged perpetrators was shared.

The owner, identified by the online handle 'A', posted details of the event on an online community forum, describing how the three men dined between 7 and 9 p.m. and even consumed complimentary coffee before leaving. The owner stated their intention to submit the CCTV footage to the police.

Online reactions have largely condemned the act, with many expressing disbelief at the customers' behavior. Some comments labeled the individuals as "pathetic" and questioned their audacity in taking the free coffee. However, a few netizens suggested the possibility of a misunderstanding, proposing that one of the individuals might have assumed another had paid the bill.

If they drank coffee too, it might have been a mistake. The friend in charge of the group payment might have thought someone else paid and left.

This alleged "dine-and-dash" incident is not isolated. Another small business owner in Guri, who runs a samgyeopsal (pork belly) restaurant, shared a similar experience. This owner reported multiple instances of customers leaving without payment, even among those who appeared to be families. While they were able to track down one family via parking lot CCTV and received prompt payment after reporting it, they suspect such actions are being exploited.

I've been running my restaurant for about half a year, and I've seen customers who look normal leave without paying multiple times. There have even been cases of families doing it. I reported it to the police after getting the license plate number from the parking lot CCTV, and they said they 'forgot' and paid immediately. I think they are exploiting this.
