Three more children die with measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh

Three children died with measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to 8am yesterday, bringing the year’s combined confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 997.

The Directorate General of Health Services classified all three latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths. No new confirmed measles deaths were recorded during the period. Suspected deaths now total 897, while confirmed deaths remain at 100.

Health authorities reported 1,156 new suspected cases, taking the nationwide total to 165,304. They also recorded 60 new laboratory-confirmed infections, bringing the confirmed case count to 19,756.

Since March 15, 145,270 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across Bangladesh, according to DGHS data. Of those patients, 139,831 have recovered.
