Three new Ebola cases confirmed in Uganda

Uganda has confirmed three new cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), raising the total number of infections to five since the outbreak was first detected in the East African country on May 15. The health ministry announced the new cases on Saturday.

The latest infections involve a Ugandan driver, a Ugandan health worker, and a woman who recently arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The DRC is the epicenter of a deadly Ebola outbreak that has caused significant fear in the region.

Ugandan health authorities stated they are intensifying efforts to contain the virus. These measures include strengthening surveillance systems, improving case management, conducting thorough contact tracing, and raising public awareness. The ministry aims to protect the health and safety of all Ugandans.

This development follows the World Health Organization's (WHO) recent assessment, which elevated the risk level of the outbreak to the highest tier for the DRC. Just a day prior to Uganda's announcement, the WHO had issued this warning. Uganda had previously suspended all public transport to the DRC after confirming two initial cases involving Congolese nationals who had crossed the border, one of whom died.
