Three students arrested for trespassing at U.S. military base in South Korea

Three South Korean university students have been arrested for illegally entering Camp Humphreys, a U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, and chanting slogans. The students, affiliated with the Korean Progressive Students Federation (KPSF), were detained on charges of violating military base laws.

The court cited concerns over evidence destruction and the risk of flight as grounds for the arrests. While one additional member of the group had their arrest warrant rejected due to insufficient evidence, the three detained students are facing serious charges.

The KPSF members allegedly entered the base through the main gate of Osan Air Base (K-55) and filmed themselves shouting slogans. They claimed that the U.S. is hindering the construction of the Honam semiconductor industrial complex and criticized the U.S. 7th Air Force for a leak of highly hazardous white phosphorus during a training exercise on July 28.

Authorities arrested eight KPSF members at the scene, but after reviewing the evidence, applied for arrest warrants for four individuals, including the three now detained. The remaining four members were released.
