Three suspected drug dealers arrested in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of dealing drugs in Akure, the state capital. Operatives from the command's Anti-Cultism Squad apprehended the suspects during a routine patrol within the metropolis.

During the operation on July 24, a search led to the recovery of substances identified as cannabis, tramadol capsules, codeine syrup, and Tutolin syrup. These items are suspected to be illicit or commonly abused drugs. The arrested suspects have been taken into custody, and the seized exhibits secured for further investigation.

Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh stated that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs, identify potential accomplices, and uncover any criminal networks involved. The suspects will face charges in court once the investigation concludes.

Drug abuse and trafficking remain significant drivers of violent crimes, including cult-related activities, armed robbery and other criminal offences. The command will continue to target individuals and syndicates involved in the illegal drug trade.

Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu emphasized the command's dedication to curbing the spread of illicit drugs across Ondo State. He highlighted the strong connection between drug abuse and trafficking and violent crimes such as cultism and armed robbery. Ohagwu urged parents, community leaders, and the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid the police in their efforts.

Ohagwu assured the public that the command will continue proactive policing and intelligence-led operations to ensure a safe environment. He warned criminal elements to cease their unlawful activities or face legal consequences.
