Three Women Injured in Paris Knife Attack; Two Critical

A knife attack in northwest Paris on July 27, 2026, left three women injured, two of them seriously. French authorities are investigating the incident as a potential case of attempted aggravated homicide.

The suspect was apprehended by an off-duty police officer who intervened after witnessing the man running with two knives near the Porte de Clichy area. The victims, aged 19, 24, and 36, were immediately transported to hospitals. While the third victim sustained minor injuries, two women are in critical condition, one with back injuries and the other with abdominal wounds.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that none of the women are in life-threatening danger, though two remain in "absolute urgency" medical care. The attack occurred in the morning, and the suspect was detained around 11:30 a.m. Witnesses also assisted the off-duty officer in restraining the man before emergency services arrived and secured the scene.

The Paris Judicial Police are leading the investigation to determine the circumstances and motive behind the assault. Initial reports suggest the detained individual may have psychiatric problems, but authorities urge caution as the investigation progresses. The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office is monitoring the case but has not yet taken over the investigation. The suspect provided an identity that is still being confirmed, and his initial statements were described as incoherent.
