Tiago Nunes is no longer Liga de Quito's coach

Liga de Quito has announced the departure of Brazilian coach Tiago Nunes, a day after the team suffered a 1-0 defeat against U.C. de Ecuador. This loss extended the club's winless streak to three matches, exacerbating an already difficult period for the Ecuadorian side.

Professor Tiago Nunes will not continue at the helm of the technical direction of the first professional squad.

The club confirmed Nunes' exit in a statement, thanking him and his technical staff for their "work, commitment, and professionalism." They also indicated that further information regarding the new coaching staff would be provided in due course. A club source revealed to EFE that former Ecuadorian striker Patricio Hurtado will temporarily manage the team until a permanent replacement is found.

Nunes, who previously coached Universidad Católica in Chile, joined Liga de Quito in June 2025, succeeding the Argentine Pablo Sánchez, who also departed due to poor results. During his tenure, Nunes oversaw 19 Liga Pro matches, achieving eight victories, four draws, and seven defeats. The team scored 19 goals and conceded 15, currently sitting sixth in the league standings with 28 points, a significant 15 points behind leaders Independiente del Valle.
