TikToker faces police probe over secret filming using 'smart glasses' in Scotland

A 42-year-old TikToker is facing a police investigation in Scotland for allegedly using smart glasses equipped with cameras to secretly film people. The individual, identified as Margerison, toured Scotland in late June and early July, capturing footage in various locations including Dunoon, Glencoe, John O'Groats, Skye, Uist, Barra, and Lewis.

While many of his videos feature lighthearted content, some have drawn criticism for their darker undertones. Reports indicate that Margerison made sexualized comments about two teenagers while driving onto a ferry. He then reportedly put on his Meta smart glasses, exited his van, and engaged the girls and their parents in conversation, allegedly without their knowledge that they were being filmed. The same video also includes an unprovoked expletive-laden outburst directed at another ferry passenger.

One particularly disturbing incident occurred on Skye, where Margerison allegedly engaged a British Sikh shopkeeper of Indian heritage in a conversation that veered into far-right conspiracy theories. He reportedly referenced the Kalergi Plan, a conspiracy theory alleging a plot to diminish the white race through immigration. The shopkeeper, who was running the store with her teenage daughter, politely suggested his comments were "slightly derogatory." Margerison later described her in his video commentary as "condescending" and claimed she did not understand.

The shopkeeper, who was born in London and has lived on Skye for 20 years, told BBC Scotland News that Margerison initiated their conversation by asking "what are you doing here?" but omitted this detail from his published video. She described the encounter as "100% intimidating" and stated she cried after learning a secretly filmed video had been posted online. "You're made to feel very small when you see a video like this," she said, adding that it was upsetting because "everyone in the local community is really nice."

During his travels in the Hebrides, Margerison also reportedly filmed an angry confrontation with an elderly couple in a supermarket. They complained that he had "loudly and rudely" asked them to move. Margerison allegedly followed them, blocked their path, swore in front of them, and accused them of being "mental." He also informed them of his intention to post footage on TikTok, asserting it was "well within my rights."
