Tinubu Congratulates Customs CG Adeniyi on WCO Re-election

President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, following his unanimous re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.

Adeniyi’s unanimous re-election is not only a personal honour to Adeniyi, but also a recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence in global customs administration.

Tinubu described the re-election as a "historic endorsement" of Adeniyi's leadership and Nigeria's growing influence in global customs administration. He noted that Adeniyi's tenure extension as Comptroller General was based on his conviction that the reform momentum within the Nigeria Customs Service must be sustained. The President emphasized that the international community's endorsement validates Adeniyi's efforts in consolidating reforms, strengthening institutional capacity, and modernizing customs administration.

Under Adeniyi's leadership, the Nigeria Customs Service has reportedly made significant strides in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, and border management. The President specifically commended the deployment of B'Odogwu, Nigeria's indigenous customs clearance platform, which simplifies cargo clearance and enhances transparency. He also praised the implementation of the Authorised Economic Operator Programme and the expansion of non-intrusive inspection technology.

His leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service has been marked by bold initiatives that have improved revenue generation, strengthened border security, facilitated legitimate trade, and modernised customs operations through homegrown innovations such as B’Odogwu.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Adeniyi's second term at the WCO will further deepen international collaboration and promote secure global trade. He wished Adeniyi continued wisdom and success in his renewed global mandate and in sustaining the transformation of the Nigeria Customs Service.
