Tinubu hails Hausa as pillars of Nigeria’s unity

President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Hausa people, describing them as "great pillars" instrumental to Nigeria's unity and progress. In a message shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Tinubu commemorated Hausa Day, observed at the historic Daura Palace.

Tinubu emphasized the significant role of the Hausa language, stating it has flourished globally and become a major language of both unity and commerce. "The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria," he wrote. "The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world."

He extended congratulations to the Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day. The celebration, also known as World Hausa Day or Ranar Hausa, is observed annually on August 26. It originated as a social media initiative by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote the Hausa language online and raise awareness of its cultural significance.

Over time, the observance has expanded to international celebrations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas, although it has not yet received formal United Nations recognition.
