Tinubu Mourns State House Assistant Media Director Peter Onwubuariri

President Bola Tinubu has mourned Peter Chijioke Onwubuariri, an Assistant Director of Media at the State House in Abuja who died after a prolonged illness. Tinubu described the death as a painful loss for the presidency, the media community and Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president praised Onwubuariri’s dedication, professionalism and commitment to public service. “Peter was a dedicated journalist and a committed public servant whose professionalism and calm disposition earned him the respect of his colleagues and associates,” Tinubu said.

Onwubuariri was posted to the Presidential Villa in 2014 after working as the News Agency of Nigeria’s North American correspondent. He subsequently served on the media teams of three successive administrations, led by Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu said those years of service reflected Onwubuariri’s competence, integrity and loyalty to the nation. “His passing is a great loss to the Presidential Villa, the media fraternity and Nigeria,” the president said. “He will be remembered for his diligence, his wealth of experience and his contributions to journalism and national service.”

Before joining the Presidential Villa, Onwubuariri rose through NAN’s ranks and served as an Assistant Editor-in-Chief. He covered foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics and finance, bringing professional experience and knowledge of government and the media to his assignments. Tinubu offered condolences to Onwubuariri’s wife, Catherine, their three children, extended family, colleagues and friends.
