Tinubu names APC presidential campaign council, Yari emerges DG

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially formed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, positioning the party for the January 2027 presidential election. The announcement, made Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed a comprehensive structure designed to steer the campaign.

Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State and a senator representing Zamfara West, has been appointed as the Director-General of the campaign council. President Tinubu himself will chair the council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as vice chairmen. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has been named the council’s secretary, supported by APC National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman as deputy and assistant secretaries.

The council also features an advisory body composed of influential party stalwarts, including former APC national chairman Bisi Akande, veteran journalist Segun Osoba, former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC national chairman Abdullahi Adamu, and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa. This diverse group is expected to provide strategic guidance.

Further leadership roles have been assigned to key figures to manage different aspects of the campaign. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni are appointed as deputy director-generals for the southern and northern regions, respectively. Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor, will lead mobilization efforts as deputy director-general, while the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will oversee administration in the same capacity. James Faleke, a notable figure from the previous campaign, returns to manage election planning, coordination, and monitoring.

The media and strategic communication efforts will be coordinated by Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga, and Lanre Issa-Onilu. The legal directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with support from Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala. The extensive list of appointments underscores the party's effort to build a robust and multifaceted campaign machinery.
