President Bola Tinubu has extended condolences following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, filmmaker, and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo. Hassan, who began his acting career in 1981 and pursued it full-time from 1994, was recognized for his extensive career spanning several decades.

In a statement issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Hassan as a distinguished artist whose work significantly contributed to the growth of Yoruba-language theatre and Nigerian cinema. The President noted that Ogogo's unique acting style and screen presence entertained generations and promoted the richness of Yoruba culture and Nigeria's diverse heritage. Hassan's body of work is considered an important part of Nigeria's cultural history, and his mentorship of younger artists leaves an enduring legacy.

He added, "His passing is a great loss to his family, the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood and the entire Nigerian creative community." The President offered heartfelt condolences to Hassan's family, colleagues, friends, and admirers, praying for eternal rest for the actor.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also expressed profound grief over the death of the Nollywood icon, describing it as deeply hurtful and heartbreaking. Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that Hassan's demise represents a significant loss to Nigeria, particularly its creative industry. He extended sympathies to Ogogo's children, family, and the entire Nigerian entertainment sector, urging them to accept the death as an act of God. "Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was a bundle of talent, who used his God-given gift to better mankind. As an actor, he brought smiles to many faces through his roles in various movies," Sanwo-Olu remarked.
