Tinubu to receive APC presidential ticket, flag Sunday

President Bola Tinubu is set to formally receive the presidential ticket and party flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday, signaling the official commencement of his campaign for the 2027 general election. This presentation follows the conclusion of the party's nationwide direct primary exercise held on Saturday.

The Certificate of Return and party flag will be presented by the Presidential Primary Elections Committee at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The event is scheduled after the collation of results from all 8,809 wards, which indicate Tinubu leading his only opponent, Stanley Osifo. The ceremony is expected to be attended by APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, National Assembly members, and other party stalwarts.

Tinubu contested the primary against businessman Stanley Osifo, who was the only other aspirant to purchase the presidential nomination form after a planned consensus arrangement failed. The primary itself was notable for being the first direct voting exercise of its kind in the APC's history, conducted across all wards nationwide. This method aligns with the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates parties to adopt either consensus or direct primary methods.

Tinubu cast his vote at his polling unit in Ikoyi-Obalende, Lagos, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. He was welcomed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other senior party officials. Describing the exercise as a "demonstration of internal democracy," Tinubu expressed satisfaction with how governors managed the process across their states. Sunday's presentation will officially launch his campaign for re-election.
