Tinubu to unveil book on Buhari as family marks first anniversary

Nigeria is preparing to mark the first anniversary of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari with a series of commemorative events, including the unveiling of a special book in his honor. President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to present the book, titled "Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari," which compiles reflections from global leaders, diplomats, and political figures who remembered the late president for his simplicity, resilience, and integrity.

On behalf of the Central Planning Committee, I have the honour and privilege to address you on the plans for the forthcoming first anniversary of the passing of our beloved former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

The memorial program, set for July 13, will bring together Buhari's family, close associates, public officials, and admirers for interfaith and interdenominational prayers. The event aims to honor his memory, offer prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul, and reflect on the ideals of unity, faith, and national cohesion that characterized his tenure from 2015 to 2023. Boss Mustapha, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, announced the plans, emphasizing that the book is neither for sale nor for fundraising but for free distribution.

The commemorative event will bring together the family he left behind, his friends and associates, public officials, and well-wishers, to remember his life and to offer prayers and supplications for the repose of his soul.

Mustapha highlighted that the commemoration seeks to celebrate Buhari's life, noting that he passed away at the age of 82 on July 13, 2025. The event is intended to foster national unity and provide comfort to his family, friends, and admirers. Religious leaders from various faiths will lead prayers during the ceremony, underscoring the values of unity and cohesion that Buhari upheld throughout his public service.
