Tinubu welcomes Nigeria’s membership into World Energy Council

President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria's formal admission as the newest National Member Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC), hailing it as a proud moment and a strong vote of confidence in the nation's energy reforms and its leadership role in Africa. The President conveyed his felicitations in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu extended congratulations to the inaugural leadership of WEC Nigeria, including Chairman Abdulrazaq Isa and Chief Executive Officer Bala Wunti, along with other distinguished board members drawn from across the energy sector, regulatory bodies, academia, and finance.

Tinubu lauded Abdulrazaq Isa as a distinguished patriot and industrialist whose investments in indigenous refining and industrial energy have pioneered new frontiers for Nigerian enterprise. He described Bala Wunti as one of Nigeria's foremost energy strategists and reform champions, whose extensive service has been marked by integrity, strategic vision, and landmark reforms that boosted national revenues and restored investor confidence.

President Tinubu congratulated the inaugural leadership of WEC Nigeria, Mr Abdulrazaq Isa, OFR, as Chairman and Mr Bala Wunti as Chief Executive Officer, alongside other distinguished Nigerians drawn from across the energy value chain, regulatory institutions, industry associations, finance, academia and the Future Energy Leaders community, who will serve as inaugural Board members.

The President highlighted that the diverse composition of the WEC Nigeria board, featuring industry captains, regulators, finance experts, and youth leaders, provides the necessary balance, neutrality, and credibility for success. "Nigeria has joined the World Energy Council to lead, not just participate, to ensure Africa’s voice shapes global energy decisions," Tinubu stated. He affirmed the Federal Government's full support for WEC Nigeria as a neutral platform for policy dialogue, investment mobilization, and innovation, reiterating Nigeria's commitment to collaborating with WEC London to achieve secure, affordable, and sustainable energy for all.
