Tlalpan invests 215 million pesos in 2026 road repair plan, targeting over 30,000 potholes

The Tlalpan mayor's office in Mexico City has committed 215 million pesos to its 2026 Road Resurfacing and Pothole Repair Plan, aiming to tackle more than 30,000 potholes throughout the district. This investment underscores a significant effort to improve the condition of local streets and avenues.

During a nighttime inspection of work on Tetiz Street, Mayor Gabriela Osorio reported that approximately 25,000 potholes have been addressed so far this year. The program is set to continue through December, with a goal to surpass last year's total of 23,000 repaired potholes. The plan also includes comprehensive repaving for roads requiring more extensive restoration, such as ongoing work in the Pedregal de San Nicolás Cuarta Sección neighborhood.

Osorio highlighted the strategic creation of Territorial Areas as a key initiative for 2026. These units, equipped with dedicated personnel and machinery, have boosted the capacity to address road issues in various neighborhoods. These crews have repaired 2,600 potholes and constructed 600 sidewalks in different parts of Tlalpan.

Maintaining roads presents unique challenges in areas like Ajusco Medio, where steep slopes and heavy rainfall during the wet season accelerate asphalt deterioration. The strategy combines continuous pothole patching with full repaving projects tailored to each street's specific needs, a response to the intense rains of the previous year that exacerbated existing road damage. Residents in Pedregal de San Nicolás Cuarta Sección noted that the current repaving on Tetiz Street is the first major work on the road in about 40 years.
