TNI Soldier Killed, Two Wounded in Firefight with Armed Group in Mimika, Papua

A clash between Indonesian military (TNI) personnel and an armed criminal group (KKB) in Jila, Mimika Regency, Papua Tengah, on Monday has left one soldier dead and two others wounded. The firefight occurred between members of the Jila Military Post (Posramil Jila) and the Security Task Force Post (Pos Satgas Pam Obvit Yonif 133/YS) and an armed group from Kodap III Puncak, believed to be led by Pemne Kogoya.

Colonel Infanteri Tri Purwanto, Head of Information for Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, confirmed the incident and stated that the evacuation of the casualties was underway. The exchange of fire highlights the ongoing security challenges in the Papua region, where armed groups have been active.

Authorities are currently investigating the full sequence of events and monitoring the situation in Jila. Security measures have been intensified to maintain control and anticipate any potential follow-up security disturbances. The TNI and Polri (Indonesian National Police) are collaborating to ensure public safety and prevent further incidents in the region.
