Tokayev chairs Security Council meeting on resource potential

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted Kazakhstan's strategic advantage in Central Asia, urging the nation to capitalize on its significant resource and production potential amidst intensifying global competition for critical materials. During a Security Council meeting, Tokayev stated that the current global situation offers "favorable, even unique, conditions" for nations possessing reserves.

He stressed the need for Kazakhstan to effectively utilize its resource and industrial capabilities by developing domestic expertise and production chains. Government members reported on the industry's current state, resource development, processing advancements, and existing barriers. The President issued specific instructions to government bodies to establish a systematic vision for industry development, improve regulation, boost geological exploration and processing, integrate technogenic mineral formations into the economy, strengthen laboratory and human resource capacities, and eliminate administrative hurdles.

Tokayev also recalled his previous remarks from the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Tashkent in autumn 2025. He then pointed out the region's substantial, yet under-explored, reserves of rare-earth metals. He proposed joint efforts to attract advanced technologies and implement innovative solutions, suggesting the establishment of a Regional Research Center for Rare Earth Metals in Astana to provide investors with crucial data on deposits and extraction technologies.
