Tom Holland and Zendaya become most bankable box office couple in Hollywood

British actor Tom Holland and American actress Zendaya have cemented their status as Hollywood's most bankable box office couple, with their latest films shattering records worldwide.

Their joint venture, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," delivered an astounding $US927 million globally during its opening weekend. This figure includes a $US355 million domestic opening in the U.S., positioning it as the second-highest opening of all time, trailing only 2019's "Avengers: Endgame." In Australia, the film achieved a remarkable $30.4 million over its four-day opening weekend, marking the biggest opening of 2026, the second-biggest ever in the country, and the most successful opening in Sony Pictures' 100-year history.

Adding to their box office dominance, Holland and Zendaya also star in "The Odyssey." This film has achieved Universal's highest-grossing opening weekend for an R-rated movie domestically and is rapidly approaching $US1 billion worldwide, having grossed $US912 million in just three weeks.

The power couple's on-screen chemistry is undeniable, with "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" seeing Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Zendaya as his love interest, MJ. In "The Odyssey," Holland portrays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, while Zendaya plays Goddess Athena, who aids Odysseus (Matt Damon) on his journey. Their collaboration extends back to 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming," with subsequent appearances in "Avengers: Infinity War," "Spider-Man: Far from Home," and "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

Beyond their film success, both actors have garnered critical acclaim and awards. Zendaya has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe for her role in "Euphoria," while Holland has received a BAFTA and two Critics' Choice Awards, beginning his career in "Billy Elliot the Musical."
