Tons of rubble dumped at historic castle site in Marmaris

Truckloads of rubble were dumped at a historic site in Selimiye, one of Marmaris’s prominent tourist areas, according to information obtained by Cumhuriyet.

The material was reportedly linked to a company handling rubble transport for a well-known yacht firm operating in Bozburun. It was dumped in an area associated with the ancient settlement of Hydas, where the approximately 800-year-old Selimiye Castle and other historic remains are located.

After receiving a report, gendarmerie teams and officials from the Marmaris Museum Directorate went to the site and carried out an inspection. Their findings were recorded in an official report, and a criminal complaint was filed with the prosecutor’s office.

The museum directorate is also preparing its assessment of the historic area for submission to the Conservation Board. The company has reportedly faced action before over allegations that it dumped rubble in the area.
