Top 14: Louis Bielle-Biarrey officially extends his Bordeaux stay through 2029

The suspense is over: Louis Bielle-Biarrey will remain with Bordeaux-Bègles until 2029. The France international winger officially signed a two-year extension on Saturday, with his contract now running through July 2029 and including a salary increase.

Bielle-Biarrey, 23, had been negotiating for several weeks with UBB president Laurent Marti. His previous deal was due to expire next June. He has scored 29 tries in 27 appearances for France and emerged as one of the club’s central figures.

The talks proved more complicated than expected. One issue was Bielle-Biarrey’s desire to take part in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Joining France’s rugby sevens setup could mean missing half a season with Bordeaux-Bègles, the reigning two-time European champions.

His personal equipment contract with Adidas created another problem. Adidas will also become UBB’s supplier in July 2027, raising salary-cap questions because money paid by a sponsor shared by the player and club counts toward the club’s payroll.
